This turned out to be a major success and a great time was had by young and old! Those brave enough to venture the "rodeo bull" probably still have sore muscles in places they didn't know they had. And as for the jumping castle, we won't mention any names but wish you could have seen the mums and dads on it - ook maar nog kinners! The Talent Competition was great fun, thank you to those who spontaneously took part, you were great fun. To the small group of volunteers who worked hard to make this day possible, a big thank you to you all. And to everyone who attended the function, without you it would not have been such a success!
And last but not least, a big thank you to our Sponsors: South African Airways (the return ticket to SA was won by Sybrand Smit); African & Eastern; Tips & Toes; Emirates Snack Food; Marina Mall Management; Woolworths; Lox Hair and Beauty Salon; Millenuim Hotel; Denel; Areej; Century Cinemas and Nestle.
The function photos will be available on the website soon. www.sagroupuae.com

To give you some feedback and history into Mugg and Bean, it all started out in Cape Town in 1997 at the V & A Waterfront and our second shop opened about 18 months thereafter also in Cape Town. The next stores to open were in Johannesburg and once things developed there, there was no looking back and up until October 2002 there have been 42 stores that have opened in SA. The UAE is our first off shore venture and we have now been trading in Abu Dhabi Mall for the past two weeks and to my amazement have been wonderfully supported by fellow South Africans. Richard Laws, the project manager was the first to arrive in Abu Dhabi early in January 2003 to set things up and get the project started. He has been responsible for bringing all the materials from South Africa to build both Abu Dhabi Mall as well as the shop in Khalidiya. He has had to deal with all the frustrations and headaches of importing everything and has done a fantastic job. I arrived here in early February 2003 to head up operations to sort out staffing issues, contacts, procurement, marketing and general support for Richard Laws. In mid-March Hannes Marais and Barry le Grange arrived as my Kitchen Manager and Restaurant Manager respectively to help fine tune the rest of the operation for opening which finally happened on 16 April 2003. The team has worked very well under difficult conditions and Im pleased to say weve got things under control. Our vision is to open up the UAE market as well as other countries in the GCC. I hope this has given you an insight as to how we have done here. I look forward to meeting with you when you come in to the shop again
Kind regards Richard Cox

Humor These questions about South Africa were posted on a South African Tourism Website and were answered by the website owner. Q: Does it ever get windy in South Africa? I have never seen it rain on TV, so how do the plants grow? (UK) A: We import all plants fully grown and then just sit around watching them die.
Q: Will I be able to see elephants in the street? (USA) A: Depends how much you've been drinking.
Q: Can you give me some information about Koala Bear racing in South Africa? (USA) A: Aus-tra-lia is that big island in the middle of the pacific. A-fri-ca is the big triangle shaped continent south of Europe which does not... oh forget it. Sure, the Koala Bear racing is every Tuesday night in Hillbrow. Come naked.
Q: Which direction is north in South Africa? (USA) A: Face south and then turn 90 degrees. Contact us when you get here and we'll send the rest of the directions.
Q: Can you send me the Vienna Boys' Choir schedule? (USA) A: Aus-tri-a is that quaint little country bordering Ger-man-y, which is...oh forget it. Sure, the Vienna Boys Choir plays every Tuesday night in Hillbrow, straight after the Koala Bear races. Come naked.
Q: I have developed a new product that is the fountain of youth. Can you tell me where I can sell it in South Africa? (USA) A: Anywhere where significant numbers of Americans gather.
Q: Can you tell me the regions in South Africa where the female population is smaller than the male population? (Italy) A: Yes, gay nightclubs.
Q: Are there supermarkets in Cape Town and is milk available all year round?(Germany) A: No, we are a peaceful civilisation of vegan hunter-gatherers. Milk is illegal.
Q: Please send a list of all doctors in South Africa who can dispense rattlesnake serum. USA) A: Rattlesnakes live in A-meri-ca, which is where YOU come from. All South African snakes are perfectly harmless, can be safely handled and make good pets.
Q: I was in South Africa in 1969, and I want to contact the girl I dated while I was staying in Hillbrow. Can you help? (USA) A: Yes, and you will still have to pay her by the hour.
Q: Will I be able to speek English most places I go? (USA) A: Yes, but you'll have to learn it first.
