Well 2003 is here, may I take this opportunity
to wish you all a very Happy New Year and may our good lord help us all
to achieve all those things that we desire and need. What a world we live in, Inflation,
War, Political uncertainty, so many things that we need to look at before
we make decisions, sadly there are those people out there that take advantage
of our people for their own gain. This is my 4th newsletter
regarding money matters, and would like to revise briefly what we have
gone through already. I am going to do this in a form of a quiz. There are several
prizes, Like,
extra money in the bank, the extra house you are
trying to buy in Italy, Spain, Scotland,
and university for the children, the
BMW (Z8, or maybe 745) or
a little 500 Merc!! Dream on??? So here are the questions.
q
To Buy ---- and Sell ---- ( not the other way around)
and q
Beat ---------.
“Answers in the next News letter” I would like to end of this brief
note with two sad stories, both fellow South Africans. End of last year and the beginning of this year, I was approached to help fellow countrywoman to sort out a financial problem they have had with financial Advisors, In both cases the clients were young nurses, and the advisor had put their money into what they were told was a bank account. They had saved to go home for Christmas. Unfortunately we discovered that their money had been invested into a 5 and 10-year plan. I am attempting to get their money back – no guarantees. Be careful guys - money is easy to lose, and damn hard to make. Just think of the sacrifices you are making, been away from your families etc to build your cash, don’t be silly by just going ahead without thinking and investing with anyone, do a bit more research.

About the SA
Group
How
did the SA Group Abu Dhabi start? In 1999 the SA Embassy’s suggested
that a group be formed to look after the social needs of the SA community
in Abu Dhabi. We started out
with the first South African Braai to see if there was a need for a social
group. Information from
people attended the braai was gathered and added to the new “revived”
database together with information received from the Embassy and the Dubai
group. Very soon it became
apparent that there were far more SA’s in Abu Dhabi than what there was
initially thought to be. Armed with this information Sandra Holloway and
Anne- Mi Hendrikse started to send out a newsletter about social
events. The Embassy arranged for a meeting for all SA’s at which a “steering committee” was appointed” They were Sandra Holloway, Hannelie Muller; Gavin Reed; Brian Ridley and Wayne Horwitz. The committee changed so fast due to transfers, end of contracts and work commitments that made it very difficult to have a committee with portfolios and the decision was made to have a steering group of volunteers. We had open meetings but only friends of the steering group attended for the open meetings. At this stage we cannot ask membership fees and there are nothing other than functions we can offer because we are not a registered “Social Group”, We had a meeting in May 2000 with the Dubai group for the proposal for a “Unified” SA group and the proposal was accepted and supported by the SAG Dubai. They were already busy with lawyers to register the Dubai group and the Abu Dhabi group were supposed to fall under their umbrella due to the luck of funds and all the failures to get a group in Abu Dhabi running previously. Unfortunately the Dubai group came to an end and nothing happened for two years. They are now slowly getting up and running again we will have to wait and see what happens in future. The volunteers for the SA group at this stage are Jaco van der Merwe, Japie Uys, Riaan Smuts, and Pieter Roelofse. Jaco and Hannelie Muller. We are trying our best to run the SA group but we need YOUR help us to make this group a success. If you have an “party or fun ideas please inform us as we are more than willing to coordinate it.!!!!! Or if you have better ideas on how to run the group please let your recommendation be heard. We are planning an open meeting for the end of the month will keep you informed.
